Director appears before Congress after agency admitted security lapses
Former President's security concerns ignored, agents reveal
WASHINGTON, July 19, 2024 - The Director of the Secret Service, Kimberly A. Cheatle, will appear before lawmakers for the first time on Thursday to answer questions about the agency's security lapses during the Trump presidency.
The Secret Service has come under fire in recent weeks after it admitted that it ignored requests for more personnel and other security resources from agents guarding former President Donald Trump.
The agency has also been criticized for its handling of the January 6th Capitol riot, which saw a mob of Trump supporters breach the building and force lawmakers to evacuate.
In her testimony, Cheatle is expected to face tough questions from lawmakers about the Secret Service's security protocols and its response to the Capitol riot.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am ET on Thursday, July 20th.
