Manifesto promises stability, renewal and a focus on the future

At a joint meeting of their party executives today, the CDU and CSU presented their election manifesto for the 2021 Bundestag election. The manifesto, which was presented by party leaders Armin Laschet and Markus Söder, focuses on three key themes: stability, renewal and a focus on the future.

The manifesto includes a number of specific pledges, including:

• A balanced budget within the next legislative period
• Investments in education, research and innovation
• A focus on climate protection and sustainability
• A strong and united Europe
• A fair and just society for all

Speaking at the launch of the manifesto, Laschet said that the CDU and CSU were offering voters "a clear choice between stability and renewal".

"We have a proven track record of delivering good government, and we have a clear vision for the future," Laschet said. "We are the only party that can offer both stability and renewal."

Söder said that the manifesto was "a roadmap for a better future for Germany".

"We are facing a number of challenges, but I am confident that we can overcome them together," Söder said. "This manifesto sets out our plan for a stronger, fairer and more prosperous Germany."
